CONSULPLANO GROUP had its inception in Portugal, in 1965, as ENETE Lda., specialized in railway projects. In 1971 the company was acquired by a long established British consulting firm, WARD, ASHCROFT AND PARKMAN, changed its name to ASPA Lda, and started developing road projects in Portugal,
In 1974, a first attempt of internationalization was made with the creation in Luanda of ASPA ANGOLA Lda., responsible for the planning and detailed design of a large industrial estate in Huambo, together with a highly reputable consortium of British consultants.
Early 1976, the company changed its name to the present denomination of CONSULPLANO and started diversifying its consulting activities from motorways to architecture, urban and transportation planning.
In 1987, with new shareholders, the company changed from a limited liability company (Lda.) to a shareholding company (SA), with a substantial increase of capital.
In 1982, ASIACONSULT Lda was created in Macau (South East Asia) to develop the initial feasibility studies of the Macau International Airport and subsequently the Territorial Master Plan of the Portuguese administered enclave.
In 1987, the newly formed subsidiary IMOCONSULT SA, based in Portugal, gradually took on responsibility for national and international engineering project and planning studies of the Group, specializing in ports and shipyards and in the design and supervision of large structures.
In 1990, the management consulting activities of the Group were concentrated in a newly formed subsidiary company FINECO. This Company carried out studies for the cement industry in Portugal, including Azores and Madeira, for the medium term budgeting (1991-1996) of the Government of Macau, participating as well in different World Bank missions in Africa.
In 1991, ASIACONSULT PACIFIC Ltd was set up in Hong Kong to cover the Far East in engineering and management consulting. The GLOBAL INFOCENTRE HONG KONG Ltd. was also set up in 1991 in Hong Kong to handle the technical information activities in the Pacific Rim, from P R. China and Japan to Australia and New Zealand.
In 1994 this company was sold to IHS, Information Handling Services, and a new company GLOBAL ASIA BUSINESS was created as a business management and information dissemination unit later publishing the magazine Global Asia Business News.
As part of the expansion strategy CONSULPLANO SA bid successfully and acquired in July 1993, from IPE, the Portuguese State Holding Institute, a majority of PROFABRIL SA shares and reorganized its areas of activity in order to rationalize capabilities and expertise taking advantage of the synergy of a much larger Group.In 1995 a split was made giving birth to the holding company PCG-PROFABRIL CONSULPLANO GESTÃO SGPS S.A., the main holding of one of the largest consulting group of the mediterranean countries.
