Profabril, S.A. was established in 1963 as the Engineering Department of "CUF - Companhia União Fabril" (1865-1975), one of the largest industrial conglomerates in the Iberian Peninsula.

Profabril quickly became the largest Portuguese company providing engineering, architecture and consulting services for infrastructures and industry, developing also most of the Group's industrial projects. With CUF's closure in 1975, due to the nationalization process undertaken in Portugal, Profabril became part of the "IPE-Instituto das Participações do Estado" (State Holding institute) Group, as its main engineering company for industrial and civil projects where it remained   until 1993. In July of that year, Profabril became a private company with the acquisition of the majority of its shares by Consulplano and José de Mello Groups. The share capital was subsequently increased to € 8.75 million (USD 12 million).

The Company has always strived to provide sound services to both national and international markets, by adapting its management structure, by creating a network of international branch offices and by establishing subsidiaries or participating  companies operating in more specific areas. This orientation has given life to an organization - PCG- PROFABRIL CONSULPLANO GROUP - with highly specialized and interdisciplinary skills, capable of responding to present day demands, for both, consulting services and project detailed design.

The Group's activity is based on the experience gained from thousands of studies and projects. Presently, its size and international prominence allow it, whenever necessary, to lead joint ventures, establish project financing operations, and take on the position of main contractor in the development of large contracts.

The Company is registered, with the World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Inter-American Development Bank, African Development Bank, UNDP, UNIDO, CDI, FAO, ABU DHABI Fund, KUWAIT Fund and other major international financial institutions.

It has its main role in delivering engineering services in an innovative fashion, mainly in turnkey projects.
